Driver Manager

JOB SUMMARY: The Driver Manager is Schneider National’s key operations link between the organization and both drivers and customers. The broad base of industry knowledge and experience gained while in this position prepares the new manager for any number of career paths within the Schneider National organization.The primary responsibility of this position is to coach/mentor approximately 45 drivers and achieve specific customer service and key factor goals. These goals include meeting all customer service pick-up and delivery requirements, achieving equipment performance standards, maintaining an excellent safety record and retaining safe drivers who provide excellent customer service.The Driver Manager is expected to use an open, interactive leadership style to reconcile customer and driver needs, while leading drivers to meet these company performance goals.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:1.Conduct all operations in a safe manner.
2.Receive, review, and ensure appropriateness of driver work assignments.
3.Keep Customer Service department informed of issues that might impact customer performance expectations.
4.Provide on-time pick-up and delivery of loads.
5.Understand and use the Continuous Improvement Process and ensure drivers also understand and use the process.
6.Analyze service failures to address problem issues.
7.Take pro-active steps aimed at the prevention of service failures.
8.Provide mutual support during absence of other team members during peak times.
9.Initiate activities to facilitate process improvements. Train and develop new associates on new and existing procedures.
10.Deliver key factor results.
11.Keep drivers informed, focused, and motivated.
12.Give developmental feedback to drivers regarding their performance.
13.Identify and resolve performance issues.
14.Conduct regular business partnerships with all drivers.
15.Manage driver payroll.
16.Ensure drivers have quality time at home.
17.Encourage professional driver appearance and behavior.Job Requirements
EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:1.Proven initiative and leadership required.
2.Have excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
3.Mature, self-confident, and self-starting.
4.Fluent in computer applications.
5.Possess pleasant, yet assertive telephone personality with good listening skills.
6.Able to function accurately at an accelerated pace.
7.Stress tolerant.
8.Possess proven problem analysis skills
9.Able to plan and organize well.
10.Attentive to detail.
11.Four year college degree preferred.
12.Prior operations/STL experience helpful.
