Operations Manager

Key Accountabilities

Customer
•Execute customer / vendor contract requirements
•Utilize the transportation management system (TMS) to ensure:
?Management of orders meets shipping and delivery expectations
?Lowest possible delivered cost is achieved within service guidelines.
?In-transit shipment events are visible to clients and their customers.
?Identify opportunities for continuous improvements
Associate
•Deliver a safe, secure, clean and fair work environment for associates
•Provide for associate performance reviews, development and/or succession planning as appropriate
•Ensure compliance to the routines outlined in the site operating procedures
•Ensure company policies are communicated, applied and enforced (i.e. accounting, operational, safety, regulatory and administrative)
•Participate in the management of turnover among hourly and supervisory staff consistent with the site turnover objectives
•Ensure the associates have proper access to the necessary tools to perform their assigned duties and that the tools are routinely maintained

Process
•Direct and supervise the scheduling of inbound/outbound shipments to ensure most economical utilization of carriers based on service parameters; interface with client to resolve any problems associated with scheduling and dispatching; recommend programs to the General Manager that improves the transportation function
•Develop and implement a proactive track and trace process to ensure all shipments are delivered in a timely manner; provide timely track and trace information to the client.
•Operate within the agreed budget (P&L) for the site (allocation of overtime, purchasing, etc.)
•Co-ordinate the collection of performance measurements consistent with customer, vendor and Exel (Balanced Scorecard) contractual requirements
•Understand process performance versus target objectives, identify reasons for variance, communicate and implement necessary changes
•Ensure daily / weekly workload planning and volume forecasting routines are accomplished (i.e. staffing, equipment, space)
•Achievement of operational performance as defined by team scorecard, customer contract, internal metrics and the P&L (To be defined in detail by the operations team)
•Promote and achieve compliance with Associate initiatives such as:
•Development of key people (performance reviews, training, succession planning)
•Turnover – attainment of targeted level
•Safety (compliance with audits, accident / injury rate, recognition, committee activity)
REQUIREMENTS
