Senior Scientist II- Product/Process Development- US Foods
Carry out technical assignments for US Foods Business in the areas of new product development, process development, product/process improvement, cost improvement and technology development.
Formulate new products and flankers that meet cost requirements and consumer expectations
Develop and scale-up reliable, robust processes to economically manufacture food products
Lead planning and execution of pilot plant and plant scale production runs - collect necessary data to resolve product/process issues, determine and track next steps and establish final product/process parameters
Collect and accurately record data in research notebooks; prepare trip reports, test protocols, ingredient and formula specifications, and process specifications to assure availability of required documentation.
Perform product reviews for R&D and business teams.
Contribute to the design of sensory and consumer tests.
Seek out, engage and work closely with plants, development scientists and engineers, Barrington Nutrition and Sensory groups, Brand Marketing groups and suppliers to drive projects to successful completion.
Establish cooperative and supportive relationships with plant personnel and business unit members by seeking and placing value on their input, and working as a business team leader.
Partner with a wide variety of external resources including contract manufacturers, flavor and key ingredient suppliers, and equipment vendors.
Aggressively manage projects to meet timelines and business requirements.
Provide high level technical services such as ingredient and formula recommendations, troubleshooting or cost reduction feasibility testing to assure continued cost, quality, and marketplace competitiveness.
Provide technical leadership to R&D management and business teams by contributing sound advice on technical issues affecting business decisions.
Act as peer coach to junior Scientists.
Travel to plant locations, supplier facilities, product research sites and other as required. REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Job Requirements:
BS in Chemical Engineering, Food Science or equivalent with 6+ years related experience or
MS in Chemical Engineering, Food Science or equivalent with 4+ years related experience
-Experience in process development, product development and commercialization preferred. An engineering candidate with product development experience and desire is a plus
-High level understanding of product formulation and development, ingredient technology, food processing, food safety, process control and quality management
This position will be considered at a level E07-E09, Dependent On Experience & Education.
