1. Carries out standard methods of molecular pathology including:
a) DNA isolation from specimens;
b) RNA isolation from specimens;
c) PCR amplification of portions of the NOTCH1 gene and possibly other NOTCH genes
d) Cloning of PCR products
e) Analysis of DNA sequencing results
2. Calculates, transcribes and analyzes data using standard molecular biological techniques, and identifies a logical sequence of subsequent experiments based on the data obtained.
3. Assists the PI in the basic design and modification of protocols.
4. Reports on progress of work at weekly laboratory meetins.
5. Prepares laboratory reagents, chemicals, instruments and equipment.
6. Maintains supplies inventory in accordance with department procedures.
7. Assists in the orientation and training of new residents, fellows, students and technicians.
8. Maintains established department policies, procedures and objectives, including the areas of quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control.
REQUIREMENTS
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor of Science degree in a biological/physical science required. Some prior research experience in molecular biology preferred but not essential.
SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
Ability to carry out procedures in a coordinated multi-step manner with appropriate consultation.
Ability to methodically record data and to analyze data using basic statistics.
Ability to work under general supervision.
Ability to perform a variety of routine procedures.
Ability to prioritize work.
