Responsible for the day-to day laboratory support for the OVCA4 study and the pre-op study. Activities include working independently with minimal supervision, performing the following techniques: western blot, PCR reactions, gel electrophoresis, and using protein chip technology and other routine laboratory work; assisting with study design of assigned projects, as needed; generating reports as required.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities1. Responsible for performing various studies on blood, tissue and urine samples; Activities include measuring protein concentration and using immunohistologic methods; requires competence in running protein gels and performing western blots;2. Responsible for extracting DNA and performance of PCR-based tests for detection of polymorphisms of several different gels from separate but simultaneous research projects. Activities include keeping accurate records of data obtained from various studies on these samples; requires meticulous sterile technique and attention to detail.3. Responsible for ensuring that all laboratory related data is correctly inputted into an Access database; Activities include spot checking data and alerting the database manager of any problems4. Performs related duties as required
Working conditionsA busy research laboratory; Projects often entail the use of radioisotopes and other biohazardous chemicals; Safety protocols are rigorously followed and enforced.
REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications1. Bachelor's degree in biological or biochemical sciences;
2. One to two years experience preferred;
3. Ability to follow instructions and to work independently with a high degree of responsibility;
4. Must be technically competent
5. Excellent organizational skills
4. Some familiarity with computers helpful
