General Summary
Entry level research position in productive lab studying neural stem cell biology and its application in treating respiratory pathophysiology and pathology of spinal cord injury using SOD1 mutant mice modeled for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS, also called Lou Gehrig's disease). Working under the supervision of Principal Investigator and in accordance with established policies and procedures, executes protocols involving a number of routine and non-routine experiments.Position could be part time for qualified senior college student completing a thesis project.Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Under general supervision, performs a variety of routine tests following established methodologies. Participates in in vivo studies.Prepares and maintains tissue and cell cultures.
Records data, summarizes and analyzes results using basic statistics.
Prepares laboratory reagents, chemicals, instruments and equipment.
Orders and maintains supplies inventory.
Coordinates infection control, safety and animal handling procedures for laboratory.
Performs literature searches and helps prepare presentations and publications.Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications
BS in biological/ physical science required.Skills/Abilities/Competencies
Good organizational skills, detail oriented
Sound degree of computer literacy
Ability to methodically record data and analyze using basic statistics
Ability to perform a variety of routine tests and prioritize work
Good interpersonal and communication skills
