GENERAL SUMMARY/OVERVIEW STATEMENT:Working under general supervision, executes protocols involving a variety of routine and some nonroutine experiments. May develop some modifications of existing techniques. Calculates, transcribes and analyzes data.PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Major responsibilities will be establishing and maintaining cell lines and animals, maintaining tissue culture supplies and equipment, performing ELISA.2. Uses judgment during experiment execution and performs procedures described in research journals or devised with immediate supervisor.3. Responsible for maintaining and ordering lab supplies and equipment. Keeps work area and equipment clean and orderly.4. Collects and interprets data through use of laboratory techniques:Gel electrophoresis, preparative ultracentrifugation, immunocytochemistry, etc.
Biochemical experimentation of brain, plasma, and cells via gel electrophoresis, electroblotting, electroeluting, immunodetection, etc.
Molecular biology; subcloning, DNA preparation, transfection, Northern, Southern.5. Maintains complete and accurate records of experiments and test results; organizes and interprets data and gives oral and written reports.6. Works judiciously with radioactive and hazardous materials.7. Helps to create a productive and professional work environment for self and other research personnel.8. Assists in collaborative research with other laboratories.9. Will be working with Zebra Fish on a daily basis.
REQUIREMENTS
QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's degree required.
One to two years of laboratory experience is necessary.
Research design experience is very helpful.SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:Ability to work independently.
Must be able to analyze research situations using the hypothesis and test methods.
Knowledge of immunochemistry helpful.
Computer experience helpful.
Moderate lifting (~20 lbs) required approximately once a day.
Should be flexible and versatile enough to deal with several different projects simultaneously.
Should be able to establish good relations with co-workers and employees in adjoining laboratories
