Sr. Programmer/Analyst - Mass Spectrometry Lab

The Position:

This position resides within Dr. Markus Kalkum’s Mass Spectrometry Laboratory and will provide computational and systems design and creation for the purpose of aiding in mass spectrometry results analysis. Ideally for a professional with a biostatistical background, this programming role will work to enhance existing systems, as well as work with researchers to design and implement new systems to aid in proteomics research.

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Design and program software and systems to facilitate mass spectrometry data analysis by screening, clarifying and manipulating data using software tools

- Program parsers to transfer & convert between various data formats

- Assist with signal conditioning of mass spectrometry data

- Design workflow automation software for linux cluster-based supercomputer

- Test and modify open-source software for LIMS systems

- Design search algorithms and signal processing software

- Liaison with systems’ users to improve performance, define potential enhancements and resolve problems
REQUIREMENTS
Experience and Qualifications Sought:

- Fluency in C++ and Perl required

- Familiar with proteomics and/or mass spectrometry data analysis helpful, but not required

- Biostatistics / Bioinformatics background helpful, but not required

- Proficiency in Unix/Linux required

- Proficiency in Windows required

- Exceptional (postgraduate) statistical analysis background required

- 3 to 5 years relevant work experience as a Programmer/Analyst working with large, multi-user systems

- Advanced degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Statistics, Informatics or Mathematics, or similar field required

- COBOL programming experience required

- Prior experience in an academic research organization helpful, but not required.
