Position Description:
Responsible for oversight of an animal research program, including the design and implementation of research protocols to characterize new animal models of human development and disease, and for developing imaging methods and technology for animal model-based research applications; maintenance of large databases using data management tools; perform research and specialized technical support with a high degree of self-initiative and independent judgment; supports recruitment, training and mentoring activities of veterinary medical students and veterinarians participating in collaborative research training program.
REQUIREMENTS
Requirements:
Possession of Doctoral degree (Ph.D., D.V.M., or V.M.D.) from an accredited college or university appropriate to biomedical research or 10 years of experience in lieu of degree. Knowledge of animal biology, vertebrate anatomy and physiology; diagnostic skill, experience and abilities in animal handling, principles and practices of aseptic technique, anesthesia, surgery, necropsy, as well as for expertise in the collection, preservation and laboratory analyses of animal source material used in biomedical research; skills in the areas of technique evaluation, experimental protocol refinement, and troubleshooting; ability to collate data for analysis and to communicate research findings in scientific symposia and publication formats.


Desired Skills:
Working knowledge of imaging technologies, image analysis tools and application to animal models; and operation of imaging instrumentation.
