Under general supervision of Principal Investigator, Martha Bulyk, Ph.D., and in accordance with established hospital policies and procedures, supports the needs of a biocomputational laboratory by maintaining and updating existing software, developing new software and participating in active research projects in computational genomics. Confers with Principal Investigator as appropriate to determine the most suitable modifications of existing techniques or novel methodologies to be used. Calculates, transcribes, and analyzes data using statistical techniques. May introduce new personnel to standard protocols and laboratory policies in a non-supervisory capacity.PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESUnder general supervision, will confer with Principal Investigator to determine the most suitable methodologies in active research projects in computational genomics. Also will confer with Principal Investigator to develop software, and to assist Principal Investigator and other lab members in biocomputational analysis. Under more direct supervision, will develop a database for experimental genomic and proteomic data being generated in the laboratory. Will need to become familiar with existing bioinformatic tools. An academic mindset, and the ability to draft scientific papers describing research progress would be helpful.Must be proficient in Perl, C/C++, Java, SQL, and MySQL/Oracle.Solid experience working with compilers and Linux/Unix is required.Prior experience in HTML, Javascript, CSS, R and MATLAB is preferable.Will present project performance and data at laboratory meetings.Will also be webmaster for lab website.Will use and develop novel computational tools for data acquisition, analysis and archiving.Will perform independent literature searches as necessary or as directed.
REQUIREMENTS
B.S. in Computer Science is required. Strong background in mathematics and statistics is preferable. Prior coursework in Biology, Molecular Biology or Genetics would be helpful. Must be proficient in Perl, C/C++, Java, SQL, and MySQL/Oracle.
