RESEARCH SCIENTIST V – Tracking & Data Fusion

A Research Scientist V at Numerica participates on small teams conducting applied research and development in the area of multiple target tracking and data fusion for both US Government and commercial customers. Upon completion of project specific training by the company’s management team, a Research Scientist V is generally expected to have sufficient general research experience such that he/she is able to provide technical mentorship to junior level research staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
•Participate in the development of state-of-the-art target tracking algorithms for missile defense.
•Participate in the creation of algorithms for state estimation (i.e., filtering), multiframe data association, bias estimation, and multisensor track/data fusion.
•Assess and document algorithm design and performance.
•Support management’s communications with the customer by providing information concerning the algorithms developed.
•Support the integration of software into operational systems.
REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or closely related field. Required background in at least one of the following areas: target tracking, resource management, or discrete optimization. Preferred coursework in stochastic processes, control theory, detection/estimation, radar signal processing, or linear/nonlinear programming.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Because the working environment at Numerica is highly collaborative, a successful candidate must have effective written and verbal communication skills with ability to clearly communicate technical and programmatic details with colleagues and customers.

SECURITY REQUIREMENTS
Because of the nature of the work performed by Numerica, all applicants must be capable of obtaining a US Security Clearance. At a minimum, this requires you to be a US citizen and have a background such that a sufficient level of trustworthiness can be established (e.g. clean criminal history, reasonable credit, no use of illegal drugs, etc).
