Children's Hospital ranks among the top two pediatric hospitals nationwide in National Institutes of Health funding.JOB DESCRIPTIONOversees the day-to-day operations and services of a core facility component devoted to bringing to CHOP researchers the latest technologies in light microscopy. The Research Associate II will manage and maintain the confocal imaging component of the Pathology core facility, which will provide, but not be limited to, capabilities for confocal imaging of fixed and living specimens, advanced image analysis, and assistance with experimental design, execution and interpretation. The goal of the core is to enable researchers from the entire spectrum of interests at CHOP to make use of routine and advanced imaging technologies in their research programs. Responsible for maintaining microscopes and computers, operating the microscopes on a service basis, training users and providing project-specific problem-solving on an ongoing basis. The Research Associate II will be responsible for advising investigators about the optimal strategies to achieve their research goals. In addition, he/she will be expected to communicate with the research community about available services, training opportunities, pricing structure and other core policies, and to advertise the facility and its capabilities within the research community to encourage its increased usage. These tasks require an ability to communicate effectively with researchers from different backgrounds and various levels of sophistication in imaging technology. The individual should therefore have a good grasp of biomedical research areas, in addition to expertise in microscopy methods. Mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot are essential to maintain the equipment in the facility. Also required is the ability to interact effectively with representatives of equipment manufacturers, software developers etc., to address user-specific needs and to incorporate newly developed modalities into the facility as needs evolve. In consultation with the Faculty Director, Technical Director and other core personnel, the Research Associate II will be responsible for managing booking and maintaining facility usage records for billing purposes. REQUIREMENTS
Ph.D. in biology or related discipline, or equivalent experience.Experience with widefield and confocal microscopy.
