Lab Assistant

The Lab Assistant works more frequently with laboratory equipment processing samples prior to analysis and setting up microbiology specimens. The Lab Assistant II performs laboratory procedures under the direction and supervision of a licensed Clinical Laboratory Scientist. This person performs 1) computer entry, filing, telephone communication and other clerical duties 2) may work alone or in various size groups on any shift on any day of the week under direct supervision 3) should demonstrate adequate knowledge of the usual terminology of tests ordered in the laboratory 4) demonstrate good telephone etiquette and be able to greet patients and other visitors in a polite and friendly manner 5) have good communication skills 6) demonstrate good working knowledge of phlebotomy and the equipment used in collecting specimens from newborns to geriatric patients, 7) processing for microbiology 8) processing specimens for reference laboratory, 9) stocking and ordering of routine supplies, 10) keeps storage areas, trays, centrifuges, and collection areas clean 11) must be able to move throughout facility without assistance and perform blood collection in a safe and efficient manner 12) process or place specimens on laboratory instrumentation in accordance with established policy and procedure and 13) may perform quality control and maintenance procedures as established in laboratory policy and procedures. Special projects or other assignments may be given with expectations to be completed in a specified timeframe.
REQUIREMENTS
Phlebotomy Technician License I; BCLS within 6 months of hire. Must be able to work in a fast paced environment; Excellent communication and customer service skills a must. Must be able to work well with others and to follow instructions, policies and procedures. Able to communicate effectively and efficiently in English.
