Food Product Development ManagerDescription:The Product Development Manager is responsible for managing, coordinating, and executing dairy and non-dairy product development projects. This position will also provide technical research and support to the new product team and R&D team.Duties and Responsibilities:- Manages technical projects through external strategic partners. Independently plans, manages, and completes technical projects to design, develop, and optimize new products with necessary shelf-life and sensory characteristics within designated time frame.- Assist in the research of appropriate co-processing partners and functional ingredients to implement designated new product.
- Formulate new products utilizing internal bench top prototypes and pilot plant trial at an external co-processing partner, as necessary.
- Coordinate and facilitate plant trials and new product start up, working with vendors, production/operation, and external processing partners. Manages and oversees some department functions (e.g., sensory program, shelf life testing, label legal claims, product specifications, product/packaging improvements, nutritional labeling). Develops, enhances, and implements procedures to support these functions.- Provide leadership in the application of the scientific method and experimental design.- Manage one to three department associates. Ensure associates receive development opportunities and feedback regularly. Identify and utilize technical talents.- Responsible for development / management of project plans; communication to management of project status and issues.
- Support department efforts focusing on dairy projects by providing expertise in the areas of food chemistry, ingredients functions, and mathematics.- Act as a department technical leader for product development projects assigned as primary responsibility.Perform services for CROPP which may involve confidential and proprietary information. Hold the confidential and proprietary information received from CROPP in strict confidence and exercise a reasonable degree of care to prevent disclosure to others.
REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications and Skills:*Bachelor of Science in Dairy Food Science or equivalent degree, with 5 years of hands-on experience.*3 - 5 years functional experience ("hands-on") of dairy product development (fluid and cultured) is preferred.*2 years experience in managing technical personnel.*Demonstrated excellence in communications, leading, and motivating others across a range of disciplines.
*Strong working knowledge of food manufacturing processes, quality assurance principles, ingredient supply market, and market research practices.*Understanding of food science applications, as well as packaging design.*Understanding of sensory principles, labeling, and nutritional programs.Reports to: Director of Quality, Research, and Development
