Data Center Operations Analyst

Purpose:
Chicago Tribune, the #1 newspaper source in Chicago and the Midwest and a progressive leader in the newspaper and information industry, is seeking a Data Center Operations Analyst to join our award-winning technology team.

The Data Center Operations Analyst is responsible for the day-to-day operations and maintenance of all data centers and computer rooms in the company, including the Tribune Corporate data center in the Tribune Tower and Chicago Tribune’s remote computer rooms.

Monitors and manages systems and networking equipment following established procedures to ensure all service levels are met. Troubleshoots and tests company’s network infrastructure.

Provides 24x7 support for production and mission-critical systems, escalating incidents according to severity and impact.

Participates in network equipment installations, guided by the networking team.

Operates printers to produce high quality reports. Manages print queues, forms and troubleshoots print job errors. Maintains the form stock inventory, purchases forms and puts stock away. Conducts periodic form stock inventory and takes necessary action.

Runs server backups and batch jobs as necessary. Monitors jobs, troubleshoots failures and takes appropriate action to resolve or escalate related incidents.

Coordinates the off-site backup tape rotation process, both internal and external.

Connects network cabling, installs servers and other equipment in the data center. Updates data center inventory software as necessary.

Maintains continuous availability by (pager/cell phone) 24x7.

Is flexible to work all shifts including holidays and weekends in order to provide 24x7 coverage and to work mandatory overtime as needed.

Alternates shifts at least four times a year or more, for at least five consecutive days at a time, as assigned by management.
REQUIREMENTS
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.

At least three year of working knowledge of Unix and Windows.

Minimum three years of experience in computer operations environment.

Operational knowledge of HP Openview or other monitoring software preferred.

Demonstrated ability to learn, retain and utilize information for multiple computer operating systems and software applications.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word.

Sound troubleshooting and problem solving skills.

Superior telephone, written & interpersonal skills to provide excellent client service.

Must be able to lift 40 lbs. Must be able to reach and bend down for equipment installations, cabling and tape management.
