Quality UT Inspector
I. Major Purpose of Job:
To provide inspection services using UT and other NDE methods for the purpose of pre-job audits, in process inspections, and final inspections.
II. Major Responsibilities and Measurable Results of Job:
1.Responsibility – Auditing Parts – Inspect parts using NDE methods, mic bores, estimate repairs hours (pre-audits), decide if finished part meets acceptance criteria for application (post audits), make sure welding procedures are being followed during the job (in-process audits).
Measurable Results –
·Ensure all defects are found during pre-audits to ensure job is setup right and no defective parts are sent back out.
·Inspect weld quality utilizing NDE procedures to ensure welds meet L&H quality standards.
·Monitor welding to verify that it is being done in accordance with the procedure.
2.Responsibility – Provide complete reports of audits to job coordinators and quality manager.
Measurable Results –
·Job coordinators are receiving a quality report that helps their job’s progress.
·Audits are properly recorded and filed according to record keeping guidelines.
3.Responsibility – Write welding procedures and NDE procedures. Research welding code requirements and manufacturer’s recommendations for procedure development.
Measurable Results –
·There is a database of usable welding procedures for future reference.
·Inspection procedures that are to be used for various NDE methods are available.
·A written practice of how individuals will be certified for each NDE method is being maintained and followed.
·A training/certification program is identified and executed.
4.Responsibility – Provide technical welding support for engineers and welders. This may include troubleshooting welding/metallurgy problems, researching problems, programming the stress relief oven for special applications, researching code requirements, “bridging” the gap between the welders on the floor and the engineers, and filling in as a welder when needed.
Measurable Results -
·Engineers and welders are satisfactorily supported in their need to achieve desired effects or to reduce cost and/or improve efficiency.
·Successfully program the oven to give the part the desired characteristics.
REQUIREMENTS
Formal Requirements/Certifications of Job -
·Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
·Level II Certified in: Magnetic Particle, Liquid Penetrant, and Utlrasound (MT, PT, UT) Inspection
·Certified Welder with at least 3 years of Heavy Fabricating experience
·Metallurgy background
·Familiar with Welding Code Requirements (AWS, ASME, API, etc.)
·Computer skills involve word processing and spreadsheet manipulation using Microsoft Word and Excel.
