Quality Assurance Manager Job Description

Job Summary:
Freedman Meats, a of specialty meats company has a great opportunity for a Quality Assurance Supervisor/Manager at its Houston Plant location. This position will be responsible for overseeing the Poultry, Beef, and RT departments in all areas of production quality and will manage the QA department towards meeting departmental and company goals, while adhering to strict USDA requirements. This position will report to the General Manger, Houston Plant and VP of Food Safety and Quality Assurance
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for developing systems and procedures for operational and quality standards to ensure compliance with all company, USDA, and customer specifications and policies.
- Manage day to day quality assurance functions, including managing Quality Assurance Associates
- Program and process USDA and Corporate auditing documentation
- Act as Third party audit director (plant level)
- Act as Plant liaison to IIC
- Perform finished product quality audits and evaluations
- Assist with Food Safety training and GMP audits
- Perform daily Pre-Op inspection of facilities
- Perform Microbiological test and evaluation of the facility
- HACCP and SOP verifications, documentation, and monitoring
- Coordinate and monitor all sanitation and pest control concerns
- Assist with plant production functions, including working on the line, when necessary
- Assist with distribution functions
- Assist Sales Staff as needed, including helping with on-site visits, training, presentations, etc.
- Provide assistance with product inventory
- Maintain Houston Plant MSDA books, assuring 100% compliance at all times
- Responsible for overseeing staff of Quality Assurance Associates, including training new employees, monitoring work schedules; processing employee reviews on a timely basis and handling any other employee issues as needed

REQUIREMENTS
Required Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities:
- Must have a B.S. in Agricultural, B.S. in Food Science, or related field
- Quality Assurance and HACCP experience a plus
- Excellent Communication Skills with ability to communicate with all levels of associates, USDA representatives and with customers
- Must have a working knowledge of USDA regulations
- Proven ability to coach, mentor, supervise, and motivate QA associates
- Ability to coordinate multiple priorities under a variety of conditions and constraints
- Ability to work a schedule that accommodates plant requirements and inspections
