Manager of Fleet Safety & Compliance
Manager of Fleet Safety & Compliance is accountable for the development, delivery, and compliance of the fleet safety programs, policies and processes. Achieves and maintains compliance with federal, state and local laws and regulations including but not limited to those of the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations, and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Implements audit procedures to confirm compliance with employee and fleet safety rules and programs. Performs employee injury and equipment collision data analysis, researching, identifying, investigating problems and recommending corrective actions.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
*Supports the development and implementation of a standardized employee fleet safety program and the underlying functions necessary to assure vehicular related incidents and compliance issues are minimized and controlled.
*Maintain a reporting system to measure the effectiveness of the employee fleet safety efforts, including a management-reporting format that will provide a management tool for identifying problems and taking corrective action.
*Serve as communication point person for the internal reporting of all serious fleet equipment accidents.
*Performs analysis of Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR) and makes appropriate recommendations for corrective action based upon analysis.
*Maintains the system that assures Driver Qualification files are DOT compliant.
*Monitor and acquire fleet safety training programs and training formats that will help assure that drivers are receiving state of the art training opportunities in the driving safety areas.
*Supports the development, implementation, and management of a vehicle inspection and maintenance program ensuring compliance to DOT regulations and company policy.
*Review incident records on transportation equipment, including tractors and trailers, and provide safety recommendations to Fleet Management on usage, replacement, and acquisition of fleet equipment.
*Develop and coordinate an employee fleet safety-auditing program that will provide assessments of the effectiveness of company Safety Programs and the degree of implementation of these programs at all company business units.*Work with management on incident investigations for serious employee injuries and vehicular incidents. This will include working with outside groups to provide appropriate accident recreation and assessment for liability defense.
*Work with transportation management groups to help ensure DOT, FMCSA, OHSA and Fleet Safety Issues are identified and required resources are provided and deployed.
*Provide an annual training session to educate transportation management in employee and fleet safety programs, training materials, and implementation procedures.
*Provide periodic driver evaluation and status reports, and other reports as requested. Promote overall employee safety awareness.
*Investigate and implement incentive program to recognize good drivers.*Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
*Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health, Safety or related field preferred and/or has a minimum of 3-5 years experience in the Safety and Compliance field within a transportation environment.*Ability to travel to corporate business units required
*Must have thorough knowledge of the requirements of Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA), Department of Transportation (DOT) Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations.
*Adept at conducting employee injury and motor vehicular collision investigations and assessing liability from these incidents.
*Adept at multi-tasking and prioritizing of competing demands on time and resources
*Demonstrated teaching skills and the ability to guide and influence others.
*Strong communication, organizational and problem solving skills required.
*Excellent PC skills (Excel, Word, and Power Point)
*Professional certifications a plus: Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
