SENIOR BUYER (Chemical Industry)

Our client, a leading producer of specialty chemicals, is seeking a purchasing professional to be responsible for procurement of materials, equipment and operating supplies used in their production operations.

This position is responsible for the management of supplier relationships and supply chain activities associated with assigned commodities. This position will also be responsible for negotiating agreements and contracts with suppliers to assure a consistent supply of materials to meet operating requirements.

This position is located in the Houston, Texas area.


RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Oversee all purchasing activities associated with the procurement of raw materials, supplies and equipment necessary for the ongoing operations of the plant.
Manage purchase order processing.
Oversee the process of negotiating agreements and contracts with suppliers.
Initiate and coordinate activities and projects with suppliers to reduce cycle times, raw material expenditures and other associated costs.
Coordinate raw material sourcing with other plants to leverage purchasing volume to reduce the number of suppliers, thereby lowering costs.
Develop and implement initiatives to increase purchasing efficiencies and optimize supply chain operations, leading to reduced procurement costs.
REQUIREMENTS
BS degree in Business or Technical Field.
5+ years experience in procurement and/ or logistics
Experience in purchasing materials in a complex (chemical) manufacturing environment.
Strong background in negotiation
Experience with SAP is required.
Professional certifications, such as APICS, CPM, CPIM, CPP, and CPSM are a plus
