Produce Buyer

Department: ProduceJob Summary:
The primary function of the Produce Buyer is to order all products for the Produce department. The buyer also performs all functions related to breaking down deliveries, moving backstock to the floor, merchandising products, and stocking cases. He or she participates in regional programs for purchasing and promotions and assists the Team Leader in organizing and developing promotional displays
REQUIREMENTS
Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs all duties and responsibilities of a Produce Supervisor.
Order all products for the Produce Department, seeking out new Produce-related products and negotiating price bids.
Participates in Regional Promotional programs.
Controls spoilage, achieves margin goals, and supports the Team Leader and Associate Team Leader in conducting inventories.
Maintains financial profitability by meeting and exceeding margin and sales targets.
Maintains accurate purchase journals and process invoices and credits.
Educates customers and Team Members about Produce.
Maintains a clean and organized back stock area.
Provides excellent customer service.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Produce Team Leader or Associate Team Leader.Requirements:
A minimum of two years’ retail Produce experience or the equivalent.
Analytical ability and proficiency in math sufficient to calculate margins, monitor profitability and manage inventory.
Knowledge of Produce and industry trends.
Ability to read and write in English.
Ability to use or learn to use computer word processing, spreadsheets, order processing and Internet software.
Must be 18 years or older and able to work a maximum of 8-10 hours per day.
Ability to stand and walk for up to 4 hours without a break.
Ability to bend and stoop to grasp objects, climb ladders, lift loads, up to 50 lbs. unassisted, push and pull carts weighing up to 100 lbs. unassisted.
Ability to visually examine products for quality and signage/labeling for accuracy.
Demonstrated proficiency in the proper use of a baler, dumpster, slicers, mixers, ovens, knives and all related equipment.
Thorough knowledge of all relevant Whole Foods Market policies and standards.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong organizational skills.
Previous experience as an Associate Team Leader, Supervisor or Buyer.
Ability to work a variety of shifts including weekends and evenings.
Willingness to attend leadership classes offered by Whole Foods Market.
