Produce Buyer

Department: ProduceJob Summary:
Maintain a positive company image by providing courteous, friendly and efficient customer service. Perform all functions relating to ordering and selling produce, inventory control, and maintenance of stockroom, backroom, and sales floor. Assist with overall department operation.Will do the following principle duties and responsibilities:
1. Successfully complete Produce learning checklists.
2. Perform duties and responsibilities of Produce Team Member.
3. Arrive at work station on time, appropriately groomed, dressed and ready to work; work all scheduled shifts and attend required trainings and meetings.
4. Provide excellent customer service and regularly practice and model suggestive selling techniques.
5. Maximize sales potential through effective and proper procedures for prepping, storing, rotating, and stocking product.
6. Practice courteous and proper etiquette when answering phones and pages.
7. Give timely customer feedback to Team Leader and Associate Team Leader.
8. Assist in training of new Team Members, utilizing all learning checklists and training materials.
9. Comply with all applicable state health and safety codes.
10. Maintain clean and sanitary operating environment.
11. Complete spoilage, sampling, temperature, and sweep worksheets as required.
12. Receive incoming product using departmental procedures.
13. Assist in developing, moving and replacing displays as directed.
14. Receive and process morning information from MDC.
15. Order all produce; maintain appropriate back stock levels.
16. Help to achieve and exceed margin and sales targets.
17. Process invoices and returns.
18. Control spoilage/shrink; achieve turn goals; participate in monthly inventory.
19. Request and ensure proper signage.
20. Participate in national, regional, and store programs/promotions.
21. Communicate pertinent produce information to the team.
22. Stay current with market conditions and information.
23. Perform other duties as assigned by Associate Team Leader, Team Leader, Store Leadership and Produce Coordinator(s).
REQUIREMENTS
1. Knowledge, skills, and abilities of Produce Team Member.
2. Minimum 1 year produce experience or equivalent.
3. Ability to sell proactively and communicate effectively with customers.
4. Ability to perform physical requirements of position.
5. Excellent communication skills and willingness to work as part of a team.
6. Ability to operate all necessary equipment.
7. Extensive knowledge of produce.
8. Comprehensive knowledge of growing process which differentiates growing methods.
9. Proficient in math skills and with 10-key calculator.
10. Strong organization skills.
11. Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends and holidays as required.Physical working conditions:
1. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
2. In an 8 hour work day: standing/walking 6-8 hours, sitting 1-4 hours.
3. Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling.
4. Work requires the following motions: bending, twisting, squatting and reaching.
5. Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals.
6. Exposure to temperatures: <32 degrees Fahrenheit (freezing), 32-40 degrees Fahrenheit (refrigerators), >90 degrees Fahrenheit.
