Scheduled Hours: 8:00-5:00 /Over time - YesOne of the Japanese trading company in Portland, OR is seeking a manager for freight forwarding business. This manager will be responsible for: Job Title: Freight Forwarder Job summary: Manage all aspects of container bookings, logistics, letter of credits, and export documentation. All freight forwarding functions are currently being outsourced. Candidate must be capable of establishing, performing, and managing all related procedures and functions for this business. Position will be located in a professional office building, currently downtown Portland. The employee will be responsible for handling the duties outlined below and other freight forwarding functions/duties that may arise related to this business. Currently, our group of companies is shipping approximately 15,000 containers per year. Approximately, 6500 of those containers are shipped to affiliate companies in Japan and the balance is shipped to customers in SE Asia under letters of credit. Initially, this position will focus on the SE Asian shipments and is expected evolve to include additional support staff and shipments to Japanese affiliate companies. Tasks: 1. Promote positive working relationships with steam ship lines. 2. Communication to shippers of impacts of schedule changes by steam ship lines and ensuring shippers priorities are communicated to the steamship lines. 3. Work in conjunction with suppliers and container lines to arrange the placement of empties. 4. Work in cooperation with container lines and suppliers to arrange bookings. 5. Prepare shipping instructions for steamship lines 6. Manage split bookings and rolls. 7. Promptly resolve container releases against bookings and terminal issues that arise. 8. Arrange late gates with steamship lines when requested by suppliers. 9. Track all container bookings from origin to destination. 10. Establish electronic communication with steamship lines to enable online bookings and original bill of lading printing in-house. 11. Generate all export documentation required including original bills of lading, commercial invoices, and packing lists. 12. Generate or arrange origin, quality, weight, beneficiary, phytosanitary, and all other certificates 13. Generate and file all government required export documentation and certificates 14. Negotiate bills of lading against letters of credit where applicable 15. Work in cooperation with bookkeeping personnel to track payment.
