Under limited supervision, purchase major/minor clinical equipment and manage cost savings initiatives of capital equipment and supplies. Provide medical equipment planning and procurement services to Medical Center clients. Candidates should have the ability to handle multiple projects, communicate clearly, meet required deadlines and work with various project planners and departments.Responsibilities:
Purchase major/minor capital equipment including maintenance contracts for the Medical Center and negotiate agreements in accordance with UMMC Purchasing practices and standards.
Organize and lead project teams pursuant to a specific department's needs;
Attend meetings as Purchasing representative, working to establish client relationships.
Assist in the preparation of complex proposal packages for review and analyze requests for: proposals, bids, information, and quotations for UMMC capital projects in accordance with standard purchasing practices, UMMC Policies and Procedures, and JCAHO and HIPPA standards.
Plan and conduct high-level negotiations.
Conduct research and apply independent judgment and technical knowledge to analyzing proposals/bids, making awards, evaluating merchandise and/or service quality, and comparing specifications and prices of competitive items.
Provide work direction and guidance to Assistant Buyers within department
When appropriate, recommend changes to, or, in addition to existing Purchasing policies and practices.Qualifications:
Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in Business Administration or a related discipline is preferred.
A minimum of five years full-time professional-level experience, involving the acquisition of capital equipment and equipment maintenance contracts for a government agency or private company, which included a substantial purchasing program involving a competitive bidding and negotiation process.
Experience in developing, evaluating, and administering contracts is required.
Familiarity with healthcare capital purchasing is required. Hospital purchasing experience is required.
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Excellent organizational skills.
Strong computer application skills (word processing, spreadsheets, and databases).
Certification from a nationally recognized purchasing organization, e.g., from the Institute of Supply Management as a Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M.) is preferred.
Knowledge of purchasing principles/practices (e.g. disclosure of proprietary information, conflict of interest), principles of inventory control, distribution, and general accounting in order to assist vendors in resolving billing issues.We offer a generous compensation package including an employer sponsored pension plan, tuition reimbursement and more!
