COMMODITY MANAGER
To develop, coordinate and manage the annual and long-term strategic plan for assigned commodities. To develop an in-depth understanding of the assigned commodities and their respective supply markets. To define in detail the specific requirements of the item purchased and source from globally competitive suppliers who most ably meet company requirements. To reduce the total procurement costs of the managed commodities while improving quality and service. To formulate, negotiate and execute contract strategies for assigned commodities. To minimized business interruptions and ensure continuity of supply. To maintain professional and effective relations with the supplier community.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and implement effective sourcing strategies thru analysis of company specifications and requirements.Develop in-depth knowledge of assigned commodities, global supply markets, and pricing trends.
Assessment of suppliers and their capabilities.Develop, negotiate and execute contracts/agreements with suppliers that minimize total cost, improve quality and assure on-time delivery. Administers performance against contract and recommends a cause of action to rectify discrepancies.Determine the purchase cost for assigned items. Serve as a cost/price analyst establishing annual standard costs and monitoring purchase price variances for assigned commodities.Utilize strategic sourcing methodologies to insure highly competitive pricing and developing indices by which to track price performance.Review and substantiate price change announcements and communicate information with appropriate personnel.Establish supplier quality, delivery, lead-time and cost performance expectations across operations. Work with site operations and manage overall supplier performance toward division/group/corporate goals.Maintain conduct consistent with company policy, division operating procedures, accepted practices and applicable state and federal regulations and laws.Support design engineering in new product development including new material, new technologies, quoting and prototype orders. Identify and research new materials and manufacturing technologies.Place orders for prototype materials and parts.Lead cross functional commodity teams to establish and implement commodity strategies and tactics with particular emphasis on value analysis, process improvement, joint cost reduction and business strategy.Provide support to site locations for chronic performance issues related to quality and delivery.Work with suppliers to develop assured capacity and on-time deliveries to meet manufacturing schedules. Ensure minimal interruption and continuity of supply for assigned items.Responsible for overall performance of suppliers in assigned commodities.
REQUIREMENTS
A Bachelors degree required and MBA preferred.
CPM, APIC certifications preferred.Minimum 5 to 10 years commodity management experience in a progressive strategic sourcing environment.Experience sourcing raw materials, specifically steel critical to this position.
Must have traveled internationally on a regular basis to source for commodities. Excellent interpersonal skills. Persuasive and influential. Excellent negotiation skills.Knowledge of TQM and continuous improvement methodologies.Contact e-mail - [Click here for email]
