Associate Buyer

The first Family Dollar store was opened in Charlotte, NC in 1959. It was a relatively small, self-service operation located in a neighborhood convenient to low and middle income consumers. The merchandise assortment featured basic goods for family and home needs, and the no frills, low overhead, cash-and-carry environment provided good value at the lowest price points. As new stores opened in the early years of the Company's existence, it became clear that this merchandising concept filled a niche in the marketplace and held great promise for supporting a chain of much larger size.

Due to our continued growth, the Corporate Merchandising Department has an opportunity available for an Associate Buyer of Electronics.



General Summary:

Supports Buyer in sourcing, evaluating, negotiating, and pricing products for Electronics merchandise subcategory lines. Evaluates vendor quotes and services to determine most desirable suppliers. Relies on product and industry experience to plan and accomplish company goals.



Principal Duties & Responsibilities:With assistance of supervising Buyer, develops and implements ongoing "action learning" program to gain proficiency in Buyer responsibilities. These include: negotiating, line reviews, demographic analysis, etc. Achieve company sales and profit objectives against company goals for specific merchandise subcategory line(s). Develop competitive customer and market strategies through targeted merchandise selection, assortment, and pricing plans. Develop and maintain good internal FDS relationships with all support areas. Maintain merchandise quality in accordance with established Buyer specifications and FDS standards. Continuously build industry and product knowledge and apply to Buyer's planning stages. Develop positive relationships with external customers. Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's Degree required 9-12 months of job related formal training and a minimum or 1-3 years of job related experience Must be a self-starter, detail-oriented, handle multiple tasks in a very fast paced environment and be a team player Excellent PC skills, specifically with Excel, are required Strong analytical skills with a sense of business is preferred, as are creative skills and problem solving abilities This position requires excellent Math skills Approximately 5-30% travel time
