API Purchasing Manager

This position reports directly to the Senior Manager, Purchasing.
This position is responsible for coordinating company wide purchasing of API’s and excipients for Abraxis commercially released products (NDA or ANDA approval). This role will work closely with Abraxis manufacturing plants, as well as suppliers to insure Abraxis API procurement activity is well coordinated throughout all facilities to maximize cost savings and efficiency. The position will also work closely with Business Development to transition materials through stability into commercial production.
·Responsible for negotiating pricing and contracts with API suppliers to obtain the lowest total cost possible for Abraxis.
·Assists manufacturing plants in problem resolution with suppliers.·Actively investigates areas to reduce cost with current suppliers. Also pursues alternatives for new sources of supply to reduce cost, or provide a secondary supplier.·Maintains effective relationship with suppliers for the purpose of negotiating terms, expediting shipments, and disposing of non-acceptable goods.
·Coordinates the activities for Abraxis related to supplier site changes or manufacturing process changes.·Adheres to purchasing practices and policies to ensure honest, fair, and ethical relationships with our suppliers.·Creates monthly and annual reports that measure supplier performance and Abraxis spending patterns.
·Performs special projects as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Education Necessary: A college degree, preferably in a business related field and/or purchasing & inventory control. Certification in Purchasing or Inventory Management is desirable.
Knowledge Necessary: Must have in depth knowledge of purchasing practices and sourcing. Must have experience in the pharmaceutical industry and an understanding of cGMP. Keeps informed on pharmaceutical industry information and trends. Keeps informed on current purchasing and supply chain practices.
Experience Necessary: Five or more years of purchasing experience as a buyer or above, in the pharmaceutical industry. Including at least 3 with direct involvement in API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients) responsibility.
