SUMMARY: Providing comprehensive counseling and educational services, in a community setting, to women with substance abuse problems, at risk for substance abuse or diagnosed with substance abuse or chemical dependency.

DUTIES
Conducts/facilitates individual and group counseling sessions and provides routine case management including assessment and referral, intake, education, crisis intervention, and exit interviews for individuals at risk for or with a history of substance abuse problems.
Interfaces with such agencies as DPSS, DMH, Department of Child and Family Services, criminal justice services, Public Health and other related community agencies and resources to give and receive information relative to clients.
Maintains documentation of all counseling sessions, substance abuse services and other services.
Supervises program participants with medication compliance and drug screening as needed.
Provides crisis intervention and facilitates conflict resolution among the program participants.
Prepares education materials for staff training and presentations.
Chaperons group-sponsored trips and social functions; may drive seven-passenger van to transport program participants; escorts/transports individuals to appointments outside facility.
REQUIREMENTS
AOD Counselor Certification under CA Licensing and Certification regulations OR registration with a state approved AOD counselor certifying organization and completion of all course work and supervised training required for certification. MFT interns can earn hours towards licensure in this position!
Knowledge of computerized substance abuse assessments and/or experience using the Addictions Severity Index (ASI) preferred.
Know and comply confidentiality laws, program policies and documentation guidelines and other related state, federal regulations.
Current addiction counseling skills including: clinical evaluation, treatment planning, referral, client, family and community education, documentation, case management and conducting/facilitating individual and group counseling multi-cultural and socio-economic issues and professional and ethical responsibilities.
Basic advocacy skills. Oral and written communication and PC skills. Ability to work varied hours.
Current California driver’s license and a driving record acceptable to the Agency’s insurance carrier.
