Health & Safety Manager
Job Function: Environmental Health and Safety (EHS)Business Unit: Aerospace Automotive and Commercial Transportation - Alcoa Fastening SystemsJob Status: Full-TimeRelocation Eligible: NegotiablePosition Description: Incumbent’s primary challenge is to act as a change manager coaching the line organization regarding Alcoa standards and procedures. Incumbent will lead and coordinate the H&S integration plan for the location consistent with Alcoa/AFS values and standards. Incumbent will ensure AFS Fullerton is in compliance with all H&S regulatory requirements and Alcoa standards. Incumbent will provide specialized H&S expertise. Incumbent will supervise two additional H&S professional as well as coordinate the activities of tactical H&S teams and SPA’s. Incumbent will actively participate in the Strategic H&S committee for the location. The incumbent will define, obtain, and coordinate necessary H&S reports, permits, and communications and H&S self-assessments for the location.
Specific Responsibilities Include:1. Provides technical support and direction for health and safety compliance programs and practices.
2. Develops, recommends and implements programs to assure compliance with all applicable local, state
and federal regulations including documentation, reporting, permits, manifests, training, and policy development.
3. Influences positive and proactive safety programs and practices. Leads and facilitates the plant safety committee.
4. Manages and supports corporate, local, state and federal health and safety regulatory compliance. Develops, implements, and communicates safety policies and procedures.
5. Manages of all loss prevention and workers’ compensation programs. Acts as the primary contact for all employees on accident reporting, investigation and hazard elimination.
6. Works with the Nurse to track all activity for the facility related to lost work time, return to work initiatives, and restricted duty provisions. Coordinates disability related absences with Human Resources and Nurse
7. Develops and administers H&S training and communication programs (HAZCOM, HAZMAT, confined space, personal protective equipment, MSDS, Job Safety Analysis, etc.). Facilitates new hire orientation and contractor safety orientation programs. Tracks all training health and safety programs and prepares annual training plans.
8. Assists as the emergency evacuation coordinator for the facility.
9. Interfaces with external agencies, plant, division and corporate contacts regarding various H&S initiatives, programs and practices.
10. Demonstrate continual focus on improvements and enhancements.
11. Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.
12. Work in a safe manner that promotes the health and well-being of the individual and the environment.
13. Comply with all EHS rules and regulations and supervisory instructions.
14. Report all incidents including injuries, spills, fires, property damage, and near misses to their supervisor.Job Requirements
Minimum Education Required: BachelorsMinimum Years of Experience: 5Minimum Travel Required: 0-25%Basic Qualifications: Requires Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in chemistry, safety engineering, or related technical field. Safety professional certification highly desirable.Experience and Background:1. Minimum of five years experience facilitating and managing safety and health programs in manufacturing.
2. Must have broad knowledge of local, state, and federal programs and regulations relating to H&S.
3. Must be experienced in safety and inspection and audit processes.
4. Previous experience in acquisition of permits and interaction with regulators is desired.
5. Must have excellent communication, presentation, and persuasion skills.
6. Must be able to prioritize and complete multiple and diverse work assignments with minimal direction and supervision.
