Scientist / Lead Scientist , Radiochemistry

As a member of the Radiochemistry group within Chemical R&D, the Scientist or Lead Scientist -Radiochemistry will conduct research on the design and synthesis of novel therapeutic agents, clinically relevant metabolites and specifically labeled materials. Projects within the radiochemistry group are highly interactive across disciplines; encompass all phases of drug development and require proficiency, under appropriate guidance, in the execution of contemporary organic synthetic approaches in the laboratory.

The successful applicant should have a strong working analytical knowledge, and be able to assess the quality of products from laboratory experiments by interpretation of data from various analytical techniques (NMR, TLC, HPLC, radio-HPLC, scintillation counting, etc.). Applicants should be familiar with handling radioactive, air sensitive, corrosive and highly reactive chemicals safely, especially since novel target compounds may have undetermined biological effects. The applicant should have a demonstrated record of maintaining a safe laboratory environment and ensure appropriate GMP practices are followed to deliver project goals. The successful candidate should possess excellent record keeping skills to support GMP laboratory activities. The candidate must demonstrate proficient communication skills and teamwork skills necessary for effective partnering with Discovery, PDM, and CRD multi-disciplinary teams to meet research productivity goals, as well as a demonstrated ability to build strong working relationships with his/her supervisor and site colleagues.
REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND:

MINIMUM: B.S. in Chemistry
DESIRABLE: M.S. or Ph. D. in Chemistry

WORK EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:

MINIMUM: Skills required include reaction monitoring with techniques such as TLC and HPLC, purification by chromatography and/ or crystallization, and structural analysis determination using standard methods such as NMR and Mass Spectroscopy. Undergraduate/graduate or industrial research experience in organic synthesis is required. Strong academic achievements along with excellent written and oral communication skills and interpersonal skills are also required.

DESIRABLE: Previous experience in the pharmaceutical industry, especially working with radioactive isotopes, developing new syntheses and optimizing syntheses of drug candidates.
