Corporate Pharmacist
Summary/Position Objectives:
Under the leadership of the Corporate Pharmacy Director, this position assists identifying, analyzing, planning, developing, organizing, implementing, and evaluating functions of the pharmacy utilization programs for all of SAI and its health plan affiliates, including the areas of quality, utilization, and case management. Will be responsible for helping direct the leadership, oversight, and development of pharmacy utilization and formulary programs.
Responsibilities:
Essential Functions:
Participate in the Pharmacy and Therapeutic Committee; recommend changes to the formularies
Support the construction and implementation of disease management programs for high-risk populations in conjunction with the Case Managers and Medical Management departments
Develop methods to encourage appropriate pharmaceutical utilization with the goal of wellness and prevention
Analyze and compare physicians’ drug utilization performance and provide appropriate feedback
Review various health plan census material regarding pharmacy utilization; analyze for quality management and utilization management; detect and document patterns; identify polypharmacy and inappropriate prescribing for members/populations; recommend ways to improve quality and resource management to reduce waste, unnecessary treatment, and margin of error
Facilitate employee and Provider training and continuing education as needed; serve as a resource to all departments regarding Pharmacy issues; encourage and recognize efforts in quality and economic effectiveness
Assist Prior Authorization functions; support algorithm development regarding prescriptions; aid Case Managers in efforts to resolve individual member issues as needed
Keep abreast of local and national Pharmacy trends; analyze patterns that impact the effort to effectively manage utilization and quality of medical services, i.e. new drugs, generic versions, etc.

Promote professionalism of all employees, including phone etiquette, manners, appearance, and attitude
Continue education, monitor industry trends, and examine policy development regarding managed health care, pharmaceutical management, and any other areas specific to SAI business needs
Attend and participate in committee meetings and conventions as delegated
Works in a manner that is not disruptive to peers, supervisors and/or subordinates.
Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined in the employer’s sole discretion.
Must be available and willing to work such days and hours as the employer determines are necessary or desirable to meet its business needs.
Must be available and willing to travel to such locations and with such frequency as the employer determines is necessary or desirable to meet its business needs. (If travel required.)
REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge and Skills:
Must possess advanced knowledge of complex medical, technical, statistical and process components relating to utilization review, quality management, case management pharmaceutical requirements. Incumbent must be able to: perform detailed and disciplined work using standard methodologies in the analysis, design, development, evaluation, testing, documentation, implementation, in support of corporate health care goals; read, comprehend, and follow technical reports and instructions containing concrete or abstract variables at an advanced level; write correspondence, proposals, reviews, audit analysis and technical documentation; present information effectively in one-on-one and small group settings to employees; and use advanced reason to define problems, collect data, establish fact, draw valid conclusions, and design, implement, and manage appropriate action plans. Incumbent must be able to successfully utilize Microsoft Office suite and common computer and office hardware
Education and Work Experience:
Must possess a Doctorate of Pharmacy. Seven (7) years of varied clinical experience required; three (3) years of work experience in utilization, quality, case, and risk management activities is necessary. Incumbent must have five (5) years of supervisory and management experience with two to three (2-3) of those years working in a managed care plan operation OR any combination of academic education, professional training, or work experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position as required.
