Must have a thorough knowledge of the sterilization process, including decontamination, assembly, packaging, sterilization, and storage of instrumentation and equipment. Must have a thorough understanding of quality control testing and all appropriate corrective actions to take if necessary. Must be knowledgeable in all methods of disinfection and sterilization. Must be knowledgeable in infection control principles and practices. Must also have knowledge of microbiology principles and surgical asepsis. Works collaboratively with nursing personnel in the OR and hospital services, medical staff administration to ensure that quality patient care is delivered. Duties include, hiring, on-going training, evaluating and counseling of personnel, setting and maintaining optimal standards for sterility assurance, and developing and maintaining a safe and organized professional environment. Must have knowledge of allocating and managing fiscal and human resources. Must have a thorough understanding of all applicable accreditation and regulatory standards, including AORN, AAMI, OSHA, and JCAHO. Prefer some knowledge in Materiels Management procurement and distribution. Will serve as back-up for Materiels Manager. Demonstrates ability to perform competencies as outlined in unit based Competency Assessment tools. REQUIREMENTS
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in health related field preferred or equivalent years of experience in OR Sterile Processing and Distribution. Experience in Materiels Management procurement and distribution preferred. Minimum of five years experience in Sterile Processing department within an acute care hospital setting. At least one year of experience in a management role preferred. Computer proficiency with a working knowledge of order entry, spreadsheet and database functionality preferred. Excellent communication, problem solving and planning skills. Ability to work well as a part of a leadership team. Ability to direct others and negotiate desired results.
