DESIGN MANAGER


SUMMARY
- Supervises the work of design staff members as assigned, and actively participates in the interviewing and hiring of prospective new design staff members.
- Performs design and applications requiring the use of computer-aided equipment and software as required, either personally or through subordinate employees.
- Manages Design process.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- Coordinates Design staff workloads to accommodate needs and to compensate for overloads, absenteeism, and vacations.
- Participates in the interviewing and hiring process of new Design staff personnel as required.
- Provides training and development of Designers as assigned or applicable.
- Writes and delivers quarterly and yearly performance reviews to assigned Design staff.
- Provides Design support to assigned Sales Representatives, including those duties as outlined in the Sr. Designer job description.
- Works with sales staff on bid development.
- Attends client presentations as needed.
- Schedules and participates in monthly Design staff meetings.
- Develops / updates Design standards and processes.
- Works closely with the Project Management Supervisor and Project Coordinator Supervisor to develop process.
- Supports other team members and performs other duties or special projects as assigned.
- Other duties may be assigned.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervises assigned Design staff.
- Directly supervises 20-30 employees in different locations.
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.


Responsibilities also include:
- interviewing, hiring, and training employees
- planning, assigning, and directing work
- appraising performance
- rewarding and disciplining employees
- addressing complaints and resolving problems



*Salary Commensurate with Experience.
REQUIREMENTS
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) from accredited four-year college or university or architectural or interior design school.
- Six to eight years industry experience, including personnel and project supervisory experience, is required.
- Three to five years related experience and/or training (such as project management or interior design) may be substituted for some experience or formal education requirements.
- Working knowledge of furniture systems and electrical/cabling issues essential.
- General understanding of building systems and building codes essential.
- Must be proficient in Auto Cad, CAP and Microsoft Office.
