Located 2 hours north of Seattle in beautiful British Columbia, Canada, Vancouver Coastal Health is responsible for the delivery of about $2 billion in community, acute, and residential health care services to more than one million people in communities from Richmond through Vancouver, the North Shore, the Sunshine Coast, the Sea-to-Sky Corridor, Powell River, Bella Bella and Bella Coola.

Salary:$26.25 - $34.46 per hour

Hours:0830-1630 with a 50 minute unpaid break, flex time, 7.2 hrs per day, 36 hrs per week

JOB SUMMARY:

This is professional nursing in the Health Department Community Health Programme. The work is home, school, hospital or care-facility oriented and emphasizes the promotion, maintenance and restoration of patient health, the prevention of disease through health education and counseling, the provision of nursing care and the utilization of departmental and community resources to achieve such goals. Incumbents are assigned duties in a general or specific program which may involve coordination and authorization of services and may provide the initial departmental contact with patients, families or external health care staff in the performance of such duties. Assignments are received in written or oral form and are performed under general supervision of a superior who provides advice and program direction and evaluation. Work performance is reviewed and evaluated by such superior in terms of effective community health services rendered.
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor degree in nursing including or supplemented by training in community health nursing and some related experience OR graduation from an approved nursing school plus a University diploma in community health nursing and some related experience. N.B. Home Care positions – at least 2 years acute care nursing experience within the last four years. Current Registration with the College of Registered Nurses of B.C. (CRNBC). Valid B.C. Driver’s License.


Sound knowledge of the approved principles, practices, methods and techniques of community health nursing and of teaching as applied to health education. Sound knowledge of the normal patterns of human growth, development and behaviour and the physical, mental, social and emotional needs of people. Working knowledge of the community health aspects of disease. Working knowledge of the services and referred agencies in the area served.
