Nurse - Project Manager

This individual is responsible for managing several Managed Care projects concurrently while ensuring the quality and timeliness of all project deliverables. He/she will take a lead role in managing MC relationships with at least one external customer. The project mgr will coordinate the work of other staff, conduct training sessions and presentations and foster the professional development of all departmental staff. This individual is responsible/shares responsibility for the daily supervision of medical record/data abstraction and review activities. QUALIFICATIONS: NYS Licensed RN OR LPN. The ability to work well independently with minimal supervision, as well as in a team environment. Strong interpersonal skills with the demonstrated ability to effectively relate to physicians, senior medical and administrative personnel, customers and external stakeholders. Strong time management and organizational skills with the proven ability to manage all aspects of a full cycle of a project, including the coordination of internal and external work groups and the work of other staff members. Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to provide formal and informal training sessions to staff from a variety of backgrounds. Knowledge of managed care operations, care/case management, utilization management, quality assurance and internal quality control processes. Knowledge of federal and state managed care regulations and oversight/review of health plan compliance. Knowledge of, and a commitment to, the principles of continuous quality improvement. Must possess the ability to travel to review assignments (locally and out of the area with some overnight travel) and the flexibility to alter work days and/or hours as required. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing OR a graduate of an approved Registered Professional Nurses or Licensed Practical Nurses training program. NYS Licensed RN OR LPN with a minimum of 3 yrs. experience in one of the following areas: an acute care facility, preferably in medicine/surgery or special care units; OR an ambulatory care setting; OR acute care utilization review. A minimum of 3 yrs. experience in Quality Management/Quality Improvement OR Care Management/Utilization Management in the managed care setting. Must possess knowledge of CQI/TQM/Process Improvement, QARR/HEDIS, QI/focused study abstraction, managed care regulatory compliance and the conduct of Performance Improvement Projects.
