POSITION SUMMARY The Licensed Practical Nurse performs direct patient care within the scope of the Licensed Practical Nurse. Cares for all patients of all ages. Participates in Performance Improvement activities to assure continuous Quality Improvement. Maintains cultural and diversity awareness when dealing with patients, visitors, co-workers and all other customers. Promotes a supportive, team-work oriented environment. Fulfills departmental responsibilities with the long-range plan, mission, vision and values of Horizon. PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS Demonstrates the ability to perform specific competencies as listed on the Competency Validation Checklists. Meets mutually-agreed upon performance goals/objectives as listed on the Performance Management Plan (PMP). WORK ENVIRONMENT Potential exposure to the risk of blood borne diseases or radiation. Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances (accident, injuries, and illness). Subjected to irregular hours and pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries. Must be flexible, work at a fast pace and manage several projects at a time. Frequent interdisciplinary contact with other departments and health care professionals. Will be required to work weekday, weekends and holidays. During low census, staff will be required to leave early, rotate days off or help another department that is short staffed to perform basic nursing functions. PHYSICAL ABILITIES Potential prolonged standing or walking. Lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfers patients. Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and/or crouching. May lift or push supplies, equipment or patients weighing up to 50 lbs from locations at or above shoulder level, required to obtain assistance for lifting more than 50 pounds. Must be able to use proper body mechanics while moving and lifting patients or objects. During an evacuation will transport patients out of the main level using beds, stretchers or wheelchairs. REPORTS TO RN, Charge Nurse, Administrative Supervisor, Nurse Manager, Inpatient Nursing Services Director SUPERVISES Nurse Technician and Unit Secretary DEGREE OF SUPERVISION REQUIRED Minimal. Must be able to work independently.
