The Hospital came into being in 1854 when a catastrophic explosion created the need to treat the many injured. In 1994, The Institute of Living, a psychiatric hospital founded in 1822, became the Mental Health Division of Hartford Hospital.

Hours: FTSeeking a proven nurse leader for clinical and administrative management of the Surgical Nursing Units, (Vascular Lab, B7ICU, B7E, B8, C8, C11, CB6, CB5R, CB4) an individual that can successfully function in collaboration with physician leadership (a collaborative management team). This individual will: ensure the achievement of excellent patient care and meet the organization’s core strategies and operating results by providing leadership to the Surgical Nursing Units. Facilitate the effective utilization of resources. Provide strategic planning, oversight and program planning and development. Evaluate the outcomes of the service according to established patient care outcomes, standards, policies, procedures and goals by using reliable and valid tools and processes. Facilitate continuous performance improvement by encouraging innovation, supporting reasonable risk-taking and new ideas and keeping up to date in the function. Recognize problems or situations that might benefit from existent research and promotes the use of research findings. Maintain the organization’s reputation as a patient-centered care organization by linking Surgical Care to patient-centered principles and communicating principles to employees through objectives. Link the Surgical function to other organization functions by personally participating in work groups and teams and encouraging staff to do the same. Uphold organization’s values and principles by creating and maintaining effective, positive customer service relationships to ensure that customer needs are met by identifying and appropriately responding to difficult interactions and educating staff as to importance of quality customer service. Create employee ownership for their careers and success.As a teaching hospital, Hartford Hospital is a primary affiliate of the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and Dentistry for both graduate and undergraduate medical education.

REQUIREMENTS
Valid CT Nursing License and Masters Degree (if Masters degree is not in Nursing, Bachelor’s degree in Nursing is also required). 3-5 Years experience managing and developing people and program leadership with surgical experience.
