Product Manager: Scissors/Tools
The Product Manager is responsible for the overall management of all product development activities from project planning to delivery of initial stocking level (ISL) to warehouse or direct to customer. They are also responsible for the ongoing maintenance of existing products, including the execution of quality improvements, packaging changes, changes in design, appearance or origin, and changes in status (active or obsolete).SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Project Planning: Work closely with Category Manager to develop product roadmap, providing development costs, feasibility, timelines, technology, resources and consumer need states that will form the basis of essential product features. - Project Leadership: Responsible for meeting all targeted in stock dates for products under development. Manages overall project timeline and leads team meetings to execute critical next steps, identify risks and/or opportunities that may affect the timeline and leads effort to mitigate risks, resolve problems and/or implement changes.
- Communication: Execute all activities and documentation required to effectively communicate essential product features, target costs, next step actions and milestone dates to members of project team and management on a timely basis. - Budget Management: Responsible for the development of a product development budget; which includes tracking of expenditures and managing project expenditures to meet or fall below budget on completion.
- Resource Management: Provide team leadership in the selection and management of outside resources (research, industrial design, engineering, etc.) that will contribute directly to the development of a product.
- Product Source: Provide essential direction and information to Sourcing personnel to facilitate the selection of supplier resources (RFP) and the RFQ processes. - Product Cost: Responsible for meeting target product costs specified by the Market Brief and accompanying VA for each product under development
- Product Expertise: Responsible for developing a solid knowledge of the materials, processes and technologies that are utilized by, or will improve, the products under the management of the product manager.
- Product Innovation: The product manager should have an active understanding of the market, customer and consumer need states that will drive product innovation.
REQUIREMENTS
Education:
4 year college degree, Marketing or its equivalent, MBA preferred.
Work Experience:
5-7 years sustained success in product development, with a leading consumer products organization. Heavy emphasis on project management skills and multi-tasking.
Job Knowledge:Solid understanding of the marketing mix; price, promotion, product, place and package.
Proven track record of leading cross-functional teams. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with, lead and develop people.
