Job Description:
This communications management position, which is principally focused on public/media relations and also includes broad-based responsibilities in corporate communications, reports to the Senior Vice President Corporate Communication for AIG Retirement Services. The SVP maintains an office in Houston TX and travels to Los Angeles when project responsibilities and quarterly meetings require periodic visits. The corporate communications department includes five people located in Century City, just West of downtown Los Angeles. Four additional members are located in Houston.

Clients and collaborators for this department’s work product include:

AIGRS President and CEO along with five profit center CEOs
Profit Center Support Team members (5)
Leadership teams for all the businesses, principally marketing and legal
Internal content experts on wide range of issues and products/services
Strategic partners such as media trainers, PR firms, recruitment marketing and advertising agencies, etc.
AIG Corporate Communications and Media Relations team members in New York City.
The media – via local and national media, business media, and trade publications.

Accountabilities:

1. Provide strong leadership in advancing a variety of communications initiatives primarily focused on public relations, but also including employee and community communications and issues management communications projects supporting various AIGRS businesses.
2. Manage ongoing initiatives within the department such as developing and issuing press and news releases, communicating major business issues, arranging and training for media tours with senior executives, and sustaining positive relationships with media and senior leadership.
3. Provide editorial content in multiple publications relevant to our markets on subject matters of interest to a broad audience.
4. Develop and manage an annual media plan that would include the public relations and media strategy for each segment of the Retirement Services business. Incorporate developments in our marketplace into whatever message we communicate to the public.
5. Develop and implement proprietary consumer surveys to reinforce leadership positions held by our various businesses.
