Maintenance Mechanic

Plan and carry out maintenance activities required to sustain effective operation of the chocolate plant. Responsibilities include inspection, lubrication, preventive/predictive maintenance and reacting to unplanned maintenance needs for production equipment. The Maintenance Technician is also responsible for general maintenance of utilities, buildings and grounds. When required by the workload, the Maintenance Technician will organize and direct the work of maintenance contractors. The Maintenance Technician will contribute to the development and enhancement of maintenance methods and procedures and will work with other groups and individuals to promote a team environment in the plant. DUTIES • Perform preventive/predictive maintenance per requirements. • Perform non-scheduled or emergency maintenance when required to support operations. • Maintain records of work performed to include parts used, time required, and clear descriptions of problems and solutions. • Analyze and solve electrical and mechanical problems which cause downtime or otherwise limit productive capacity of equipment. • Make recommendations to modify or replace equipment when necessary to support demand or improve productivity. • Organize and direct the work of maintenance or installation contractors when required. • Maintain an optimum level of spare parts taking into consideration storage space, storage damage, inventory carrying cost, speed of delivery from vendor and potential and tolerance for downtime. • Perform all work in a manner that ensures the safety of self and others, paying particular attention to lock out/tag out requirements. • Perform all work in a manner that conforms to product quality and product safety requirements. • Maintain work area and equipment in clean, orderly and safe condition. • Perform various other similar or associated duties as required or as directed.
REQUIREMENTS
• High school diploma or equivalent. • Minimum 3 years experience maintaining production equipment. Electrical, simple controls and mechanical experience required. Food manufacturing experience preferred. • Experience with maintaining and troubleshooting packaging and wrapping machines a plus. • Strong verbal communication skills required. Bi-lingual in English and Spanish preferred but not required. • Ability to read, comprehend and work from technical documents, blueprints and electrical schematics. • Strong problem solving and decision making skills.
