AGRICULTURAL INSPECTOR AID

POSITION INFORMATION
Position allocable to this class typically work under the immediate technical supervision of a journey level inspector assisting in agricultural inspection and other enforcement work, or under the direction of higher level technical laboratory personnel.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Drive a motor vehicle to multiple locations to maintain and service a trap route on properties or to collect water samples, read and follow maps/directions, clearly write directions & addresses, draw visual landmarks and structures, enter and exit a motor vehicle repeatedly, work for considerable lengths of time in heat/sun or cold, visualize slight differences in small insects; keep accurate records; interact with the public sector and home owners; handle pesticides and solvents; work in chemistry based laboratory environment; collect water samples and perform simple water testing; washing of laboratory glassware and equipment, preparing log sheets of laboratory samples received, and performing simple test of pH, residual chlorine, turbidity, nitrite, temperature and conductivity of water samples using standard operating procedures and methods. Incumbents in these positions must exercise basic knowledge of insect recognition as well of state and county policies, procedures, and laws governing agricultural endorsements, or general toxicology laboratory procedures.
REQUIREMENTS
Completion of a natural science course in an accredited college -OR- one year's experience in work involving the recognition of insect forms.

Physical Class: 3 - Moderate:
Includes standing or walking most of the time, with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching; includes working on irregular surfaces, occasionally lifting objects weighting over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.
Licenses: A valid California Class "C" Driver License is required to perform job-related essential functions. License must not be suspended, restricted or revoked. A CANDIDATE WHOSE DRIVING RECORD SHOWS FOUR OR MORE MOVING VIOLATIONS WITHIN THE LAST TWO YEARS WILL NOT BE APPOINTED. Candidates MUST provide a copy of their driving record from the California State Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) prior to their appointment.

Special Requirement Information: Accredited institutions are those listed in the publications of regional, national or international accrediting agencies which are accepted by the Department of Human Resources. Publications such as American Universities and Colleges and International Handbook of Universities are acceptable references. Also acceptable, if appropriate, are degrees that have been evaluated and deemed to be equivalent of degrees for United States accredited institutions by an academic credential evaluation agency recognized by The National Association of Credential Evaluation Services.
