VET MED FARM SUPERVISOR

VET MED FARM SUPERVISOR The Department of Vet Med Administration at Auburn University is seeking candidates for the position of Vet Med Farm Supervisor. The individual in this position will supervise feeding and care of 150-200 horses. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: ensure timely feeding of horses twice daily; procuring of feed and good quality hay, provision of water and required foot care (farrier services as required); and the maintenance of health care records for all horses; responsible for the building and maintenance of fences and pastures to include the removal of old and installation of new fences (electrical and wire) and ensuring adequate mowing and weed control of all pastures; maintain all farm machinery and other vehicles assigned to the research unit to include being responsible for all routine maintenance and repairs to ensure reliability and availability for daily use; assist and supervise the scheduling and collection of medical specimens from the horses and develop a thorough knowledge of operating and maintaining a plasmaphoresis machine; ensure proper operation of storage facilities and ensuring availability of alternate sources of electrical power for these units in the event of normal electrical failure; provide supervision of 6 9 animal care personnel and veterinary technicians involved in the care and collection of specimens from the horses; responsible for general maintenance of several farm and other buildings, cleaning of stalls, removal of waste, etc. in accordance with established protocols; assist in the supervision, packaging and shipping of processed specimens to designated destination laboratories. The minimum qualifications are a high school diploma or GED and 8 years experience or an Associate's degree from an accredited institution and 4 years experience. Candidate must be experienced in the care and handling of a large number of horses; and supervision of skilled and unskilled laborers and technicians. Experience in the maintenance and use of various types of farm machinery and medical equipment involved in this research project is desired. Minorities and women are encouraged to apply.
