Arkema is a global chemical leader with $6.3 billion in sales worldwide, 90 industrial sites in more than 40 countries, and six research and development centers, comprised of three business segments: Vinyl Products, Industrial Chemicals, and Performance Products. Arkema has offices conveniently located in Center City Philadelphia. We have an opportunity for a:Manager, Community Relations The Manager, Community Relations will be responsible for coordinating relationships between Arkema manufacturing and remediation locations and the communities in which they do business, and corporate notifications of emergency incidents. Directs the activities involved in maintaining these relationships, prepares reports and other documents supporting them and coordinates corporate notifications of incidents involving Arkema that may receive media attention. Produces plant-related press releases, articles for company Internet publication, articles for corporate publications, speeches for company executives, reviews plant newsletters and Corporate Community Relations and Crisis Communications Manuals.Responsibilities:·Work with plant managers and other personnel to establish and maintain good relations with the local community, including neighbors, emergency responders, local officials, schools, and others.
·Attend Community Advisory Panel meetings at as many plants as practical to gauge local acceptance of Arkema and issues of interest to the local communities.
·Establish means for plant and logistics employees to engage communication procedures in the event of an incident at an Arkema site or involving Arkema products that is likely to attract media attention. Notify all affected corporate employees of these incidents immediately and follow up with regular updates.
·Prepare documents – press releases, brochures, ANNIE articles, Power Point presentations, etc. – to promote community relations activities at the corporate and plant levels, and within the local communities.
·Coordinate the Arkema Science Teacher Program at participating facilities in the U.S. and find ways to enhance the promotion of the program at the local level.·Prepare and maintain the company’s Community Relations and Crisis Communication Manuals.
·Develop local and global crisis communication plans to address specific identified risks.
·Prepare procedures detailing the activities conducted, especially those related to crisis communications and management of change.
·Assist with training Arkema employees (and others, as requested) on the concepts of crisis communication, dealing with the media, and workplace violence.·Respond to inquiries from media relating to plant and corporate activities; acts as the company spokesperson
·Coordinate state governmental relations for Arkema, with emphasis on Texas, Pennsylvania and Kentucky.
·Contribute to the organization and ensure appropriate response to simulations such as emergency drills at plant and corporate levels.·Promote corporate initiatives such as E3 (Enhancing Environmental Excellence), Safety In Action, Team Safety, REACTS, etc. through participation in meetings and preparation of articles for ANNIE and other publications.·Conduct public meetings as requested, especially in communities with Arkema-sponsored remediation activities.
·Represent Arkema on the Pennsylvania Chemical Industry Council (Executive Board member) and the Chlorine Chemistry Council.
REQUIREMENTS
·Bachelor’s degree (preferably in Chemistry or related science)
·5+ years of industry experience, ideally in corporate internal and external communications.
·Actual plant experience highly desirable.·Crisis communication/management experience highly desirable.
