Director, General Purchasing

Functional Area: ProfessionalPosition Description: This position has the responsibility for the procurement of various good and services to support US Airways' operations, ensuring that requirements for cost, quality and delivery are met. Team with functional leaders to confirm that procurement needs are met. Staff, mentor and coach technical general team. Manage the supply base to confirm that US Airway expectations for quality, delivery, cost, service and technology are met. Benchmark procurement processes, implementing best practices within US Airway. Develop and implement commodity strategies via cross functional teams. Expect and achieve cost savings/productivity improvements from the supply base. Identify and implement business solutions, independently and via cross functional teams, as appropriate. Merit planning and performance reviews
REQUIREMENTS
Education: Bachelors DegreeExperience: 7 - 10 YearsPosition Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in business; MBA preferred
At least 7 years of purchasing experience with a progressive organization focused on step-function improvements in cost, quality and process improvement
At least 2 years of managing personnel
Strong bias for action and ability to “breakdown” barriers
Excellent leadership skills - set vision, motivate/influence
Good decision maker - using facts, wisdom, experience and judgment in making sound decisions
Excellent verbal, written, analytical and computer skills
Demonstrated ability to drive projects to completion
