Director, Communications

FUNCTION: Sales and Marketing
REPORTS TO: President, Textron Fluid & PowerJOB SUMMARY:
Communication Directors manage and integrate internal communications, develop and execute a communications strategy aligned with Textron Fluid & Power’s business strategyRESPONSIBILITIES TO INCLUDE:
Develops and implements an internal communications strategy, identifies appropriate media, messages and timing for communications topics.
Facilitates communication and understanding of Fluid and Power business unit strategy to employees at all levels.
Develops and implements employee communications activities working closely with Human Resources, Textron Sigma and other teams to identify and communicate key messages - Lean Acceleration, Culture of Compliance, IT Infrastructure etc
Drafts and manages regular President communications to employees in appropriate formats and frequencies.
Develops and manages two way employee communications, establishing a process to capture the voice of the Employee and ensuring that feedback is shared with the Senior Leadership Team and integrated into follow up communications.
Develops and implements a manager communications skills program, deploying appropriate tools and training to help managers and supervisors become effective communicators
Manages Fluid and Power Portal content
Facilitates agenda planning and recording of notes and actions for Fluid and Power Senior Leadership Team meetings and Product Line Business Reviews. Participates in SLT meetings and Product Line Business Reviews.
Develops and maintains email distribution lists
Manages crisis communications working closely with Subject Matter Experts to monitor and respond to crisis situations affecting Fluid and Power people and facilities.
Develops and implements media relations strategies and standards.
Writes and disseminates press releases, question and answer and briefing document, prepares and trains managers to deal with media, identifies and plans media opportunities, responds to media requests and questions.
Develops community relations communication material and facilitates community relations programs and events.
Works closely with Corporate Communications to ensure consistency in communications content and processes
Fluid and Power representative on Textron Communication CouncilEDUCATION:
Bachelor's Degree: Business Administration or CommunicationPOSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum of five years experience in business communications role.
Professional development in business communications.
Experience of working in a large complex organization with multiple reporting lines and experienced in networking effectively within the organization.
Experience of working outside the USA and experience of influencing across cultures.
Ability to speak at least one foreign language is desirable (French, German language skill preferred).
Proven media relations skills
Process orientation and Six Sigma certification to Green Belt level desired.
Demonstrated ability to to counsel and effectively influence senior management.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interface with all levels of management.
Able to build and retain confidence.
A team player with the ability to create and maintain strong peer relations.
Adaptable and comfortable with working across organizational boundaries and able to influence without authority.
