Saint Mary’s College invites applications for a full-time; exempt Editor/Writer position to research, write and edit material for placement in College publications and other College media.
Founded in 1863, Saint Mary's is a residential campus nestled 20 miles east of San Francisco in the picturesque Moraga Valley. Based in the Catholic, Lasallian and Liberal Arts traditions, Saint Mary's currently enrolls more than 4,500 students from diverse backgrounds in undergraduate and graduate programs. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to the Editorial Director, the Writer/Editor researches, writes and edits materials that are placed in the College’s publications and other media such as the College website, print and digital newsletters, messages from the President, Provost and other College officers and marketing collateral; participates in editorial planning; contributes to and participates in analysis and discussion of issues influencing communication and marketing objectives; advises Editorial Director and others, as appropriate, on College communication issues and represents College Communications at selected events and meetings, as assigned by the Editorial Director.
Works in a highly collaborative and culturally diverse environment and develops effective relationships within the Departments, School and with other areas of the College. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the mission of the College, which is informed, animated and expressed through its Catholic, Lasallian and Liberal Arts traditions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, journalism or related discipline and a minimum of five (5) years increasingly responsible experience in journalism, institutional and/or freelance writing/editing required; significant copy editing experience and working knowledge of Chicago and AP styles required; experience in similar setting or in higher education highly desirable;
Demonstrated ability to adapt writing style to disparate and various audiences and objectives; ability to work in a highly collaborative environment with other graphic design and communications professionals; ; strong interpersonal, verbal and written skills; excellent customer service and phone etiquette; demonstrated excellence in using Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.), email and internet usage; ability to handle multiple task simultaneously, establish priorities, and work in an organized manner; ability to work cooperatively and effectively with all members of a culturally diverse campus community; ability to work independently and as a team; Web familiarity and consultative experience, highly desirable; understanding of and commitment to further the mission of the College.
