Position Description:
The Accounting Manager is directly responsible for managing the accounting, billing and collection functions for the SF office of prestigious large firm. In addition, the Accounting Manager assists the Office Administrator in providing overall leadership and specific accounting and financial direction within the SF office. The Accounting Manager will help ensure that strong, effective accounting processes, procedures and controls are in place to safeguard the financial and physical assets of all California offices.
Reporting Relationships:
The Accounting Manager reports directly to the SF Office Administrator and maintains strong dotted-line relationships with both the firm's Controller and Finance Director located in New York.
Duties and Functions:
- Responsible for the hiring, training, and development of personnel in the accounting, billing and collection functions
- Supervise accounts payable, cash receipts and application, disbursements, expense reimbursement, trust accounting, petty cash, and monitor account balances
- Actively reviews WIP and AR levels, bringing attention and focus to areas of potential concern
- Oversees billing processes, including work of billing coordinators and secretaries, ensuring monthly billing activities meet firm-wide guidelines for timeliness and completeness
- Monitors collection activities, ensuring that AR is actively worked and necessary AR write-offs are processed in a timely manner and consistent with Firm policy
- Develops annual SF expense budget in conjunction with Office Administrator and performs monthly budget variance analyses
- Takes a leadership role in ensuring that members of the SF accounting staff effectively coordinate and support the accounting activities of the other California offices as necessary REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent interpersonal, supervisory and team-building skills
- Solid written and oral communication skills
- Tremendous planning and organization skills, including demonstrated ability to manage multiple, diverse projects and personnel concurrently
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Strong customer service experience and approach
- 5+ years of relevant management experience in accounting for a law firm or other professional service organization
- Excellent PC skills, particularly Excel
- 4 year accounting degree required; advanced degree and/or CPA is a plus
