Litigation Paralegal

Great opportunity with a fantastic Intellectual Property law firm in Orange County. Must have a minimum of 4 years experience working as a litigation paralegal. Under direction, assist attorneys in the preparation and prosecution of litigation cases, as well as specific case or administrative projects as requested. This position requires the ability to work overtime, which often cannot be predicted in advance, and occasional travel.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Assist attorneys with pleadings, discovery, motion and trial practice.
Act as court liaison.
Assist case attorneys in preparation of court documents.
Assist case attorneys in preparation and service of discovery.
Coordinate depositions.
Assist case attorneys in preparation and submission of motion and trial exhibits.
Assist attorneys at the conduct of trial.
Assist case attorneys in preparation of physical and graphic evidence.
Prepare hearing/trial notebooks for oral argument.
Assist case attorneys in document productions.
Cite check/Shepardize legal authorities.
Review and approve final court document prior to filing.
Coordinate filing, service and follow-up of court documents.
Perform litigation calendaring and case functions.
Perform litigation calendaring functions.
Review all incoming litigation court papers and forward same to Litigation Calendaring for input into the computerized calendaring system, to ensure that all dates are calendared.
Review all dates calendared by the computerized calendaring system for accuracy, taking into account the specific rules of the court, specific rules set forth by the judge(s) assigned to the matter, any recent correspondence on the matter and any other communication with other team members.
Discuss any discrepancies with the Designated Attorney assigned and revise accordingly by returning the document for correction; or preparing an addition, change or removal sheet.
Review weekly calendar draft making any necessary additions, changes or deletions as necessary prior to the distribution of final calendars to the attorneys.
Organize and maintain court and discovery papers.
Organize and index court and discovery papers (work copies and files are organized and maintained by the attorneys and their assistants) in chronological order.
Maintain case notebooks.
Maintain paralegal files.
Maintain document productions.
Perform miscellaneous administrative responsibilities.
Deactivate and inventory closed cases.
Maintain and update case profiles.
Maintain and update litigation support services.
Maintain and update judicial profiles.
Maintain and update court forms.
Maintain and update Federal, State and local rules.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Must be proficient in Word and Excel. Paralegal Certificate required. Successful candidate will be flexible, willing quickly to adapt to changing directions, and have a great attitude.

REQUIREMENTS
Qualified candidates will have:

Have sufficient knowledge of federal, state and local procedural rules.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing as well as verbally.
Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize case information.
Ability to use Word to create and update documents.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 15 pounds.
Ability to type 45 wpm.
Education and Experience:

Requires a Bachelors degree, a paralegal certificate, and a minimum of three years paralegal experience.
