SUMMARY OF ROLE – Intellectual Property Attorney

This position involves a variety of patent and trademark issues ranging from engineering and design to computer and software issues to life sciences.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

•Domestic and Foreign patent and trademark management, preparation and prosecution
•Assist chief IP counsel with development and implementation of global patent prosecution strategies
•Draft and negotiate license agreements, joint development agreements and related
•Review and provide opinion on Discus and third party patents
•Work with inventors to provide counseling on inventions
REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

•JD from an ABA accredited law school with excellent academic achievement required.
•Licensed attorney in good standing with California state bar.
•Licensed to practice before U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
•Minimum of three years experience in patent drafting and prosecution, trademark and copyright filing and clearance and infringement opinions required.
Minimum of two years of experience in:
o hands-on laboratory experience, either in graduate school or industry
o working with inventors regarding various aspects of the invention
•Experience in intellectual property licensing and transaction issues, including:
o drafting and negotiating technology license and development agreements
o other IP contracts
