Packaging Specialist

Position Summary: Responsible for new product packaging and sourcing including options and recommendations that fit our business costs and profitability. This position will coordinate their efforts with Marketing Product Development and Finance.
Key Responsibilities
New Product and Resourcing
• Meet with appropriate Marketing personnel to discuss product development and requirements.
• Search for international manufacturing or broker options (may use existing contacts) that suit specific product variables determined from meeting with Marketing personnel.
• Participates in maintaining Supplier Sourcing spreadsheet or database for use by other members of the department.
• Analyze product production options to determine best choice of manufacturing facility or broker.
• Responsible for determining optimal shipping carton capacity (using packaging software) based on customer buying requirements as advised through Marketing and Sales.
• Present findings to direct supervisor for review and authorization to have product made.
• Communicates back to appropriate marketing personnel on finalized manufacturing decision including cost and available shipping data.
• Contract with selected manufacturer to begin production process and subsequent shipping details.
• Upon confirmed verbal or written commitment from Sales Personnel, request product production from manufacturer.
• Performs quality control on product o Review production samples for match to required specifications. o Review actual shipment of product upon its arrival.
• Based on results of quality control, responsible for determining and approving any vendor charge back costs. Will need to work with Financial department for all charge back issues.

• Maintains tracking information relating to manufacturing timeliness of product production, response to correspondence, shipping requirements and objectives.
• All overseas inquiries must be responded to on the same day as receipt of inquiry; this includes e-mail.
• Supports receiving department with scheduling questions relating to product arrival and storage determination.
REQUIREMENTS


Skill Requirements
• Bachelor degree in Business focusing on Product Packaging or International Sourcing.
• 2-5 years work experience in similar role for a consumer product distributor.

• International component sourcing experience.

• Knowledgeable about C-TPAT regulations and requirements for overseas product manufacturing.

• Must be knowledgeable of the HTS (Harmonized Tariff System) requirements.

• Demonstrated ability to articulate thoughts and concepts using verbal and written communication styles.
• Excellent spreadsheet ability for analysis of acquired cost data.
• Advanced experience using Micro Soft Office Products: Excel and Word.

• Able to prioritize and organize work demands so as to meet all deadlines timely.
• Understanding of general financial impact of sourcing costs relating to product manufacturing and margin determination.
• Prior use of Product Life Cycle Management Software.
• Prior experience using packaging shipping software.
• Need to attend manufactory and industry conventions through out the year.

• International travel required 2-4 times a year.
