Material Planner Associate

Purpose: Our client in Long Beach has an immediate need for a Material Planner.

Position Purpose:
Perform the planning activities associated with supporting production, completion and service procurement requirements, maintain planning information and associated part/material attributes within an MRP II database.
Respond to changes in schedules and changes resulting from engineering changes.
Communicate schedules, changes to schedules or changes to requirements to cognizant Procurement personnel.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Essential Functions:
1. Establish order code parameters consistent with production rates, supplier lead times and corporate inventory objectives/policies.
2. Ensure data elements which impact planning and supply chain processes are accurate and routinely maintained.
3. Propose replenishment schedules for a Buyer or Planner/Releaser and communicate changes as required.
4. Utilize computerized MRP II system and become proficient in understanding interdependencies amongst various planning and scheduling system interfaces.

Additional Functions:
1. Coordinate the scheduling and implementation of Engineering changes with assistance from a Senior Planner.
2. Approve all material transactions for components which comprise scope of responsibility.
3. Identify components with high level of demand variability; analyze options and prepare recommendation for management approval.

Operating Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
Minimum Training & Education Requirements:
1. Bachelor's degree in Materials Management, Operations Management, or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent experience.
2. Elementary exposure to computer based planning, scheduling, procurement, manufacturing execution systems.

Minimum Experience Requirements:
1. Zero to 2 years experience in requirements planning, purchasing, or production scheduling
2. Basic experience (0-6 months) with spreadsheet and database tools.
Problem Resolution Opportunities:
Analyze and resolve issues to maximize customer service at the lowest total cost

Communications Skills:
1. Frequent interaction with Purchasing, Engineering, Manufacturing, Material Control and Quality personnel.
2. Should possess confident, tactful communication skills.
